Building Opportunity and Exploring Occupations

In the past week I had the chance to explore the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Handbook website I found it was a great tool. This website is great for researching the various statistics behind an occupation. I especially liked the student tab included on the website for guidance to younger users. The tab makes for a simple way to find introduction videos to economics and other related subjects. I appreciated that there was a section of the site built specifically for younger users that can educate themselves on the subject.

This website was very easy to navigate and find information. There are several drop down boxes with criteria that may be used to narrow down a search. It gave additional in-depth information for occupations once the search was made and makes it simple for the user to gain all the knowledge needed when further looking into an occupation.

Something else I observed this week was the TED Talk regarding how to be an opportunity maker. Kare Anderson sits down with the audience and goes into what it means to utilize a situation and turn it into an opportunity. Her encouragement to be proud of yourself was comforting and empowering. She told the audience that every individual is the best at something. I saw this as a great way to inform the audience that they all should be confident in their abilities and to unleash what makes them unique. She goes on to describe how beneficial connections can be and how they can create new opportunities. I have been told time and time again during job searching that building connections will help me when I enter the work force. Kare was very helpful when encouraging the members of the audience they all have the ability to achieve greatness and success by utilizing their own strengths to make create opportunities for themselves.
