Becoming a Professional

As I continue my education, I become more aware of what is in store for me after I receive my diploma. While I am very excited for my future, I am taking advantage of the calm before the storm of job searching. A few articles have been helpful when providing honest advice surrounding the job searching process.

The first article I consulted was called, “6 Things You Must Do to Get Your First Job,” which can be found on the Forbes website. I was reassured when one of the first points was to establish a blog because I already am in the progress of writing on two blogs, this WordPress blog along with a Wix blog I created during my Journalism course. This Wix blog is geared towards logging my travels and helpful tips when it comes to international travel. Feel free to take a look! You will find some helpful packing tips and a few photos from past trips.

The next article I read was found on the Monster website which includes common mistakes made my recent college graduates. As someone who is close to graduation, I was enticed to read about mistakes I am likely to make. The first point recommends tailoring my resume for each job I am applying for. I found it more interesting as I read on to find out that many jobs scan applications for key words according to the job description. I also find it important as mentioned in the same article to keep up with industry news so I may be more knowledgeable to technology updates and learn from others mistakes.

The last article I reviewed covers tips for job searches found on US News. The first and most important tip I read was to not wait to job search. I have become more familiar recently with job sites, such as LinkedIn, Indeed, and Glassdoor. The last and more surprising tip was to include all job history on a resume. I found this the most interesting because I did not know how important my retail and food industry experience would be to an employer. These articles were very helpful when broadening my horizons about my future career.
